Native English speakers who plan to go to Japan expect to make money, not progress in Japanese English skills. If many Japanese, and indeed Asians, become proficient in English, then young English-speaking people will lose the opportunity to work as English teachers for a short period of time. In the first place, people who truly believe that they can live anywhere on the planet if they only speak English and have no trouble learning a foreign language have no other choice but to work as English teachers, so they are not ashamed of their own lack of forethought when they complain about the low salaries of English teachers in Japan.

@gordonbgraham I pray that many young people who plan to move to a foreign country to teach English will have the same strong determination and commitment as you.

@gordonbgraham There are many videos on Youtube published by native speakers (young people who have been to Japan) who say that English teachers do not need to bother learning Japanese. Many of them associate only with Tokyo, the capital and cosmopolitan city, and believe that since many people there speak English, they will have no trouble with the language aspect of life and work. As you probably already know, Japan is a country where wages have not increased in over 30 years. And with many Filipinos employed as teachers of cheap online English conversation lessons, the reality certainly seems to be that there are more options for Japanese who want to advance their English skills and make a lot of money.
