  1. Some foreigners (or many foreigners) prefer to treat the Japanese as atheists. I don't know what reason they have for ridiculing the Japanese in that way, but it makes a bit more sense if they label us as atheists for believing in a philosophical religion rather than relying on the god of Buddhism. However, my hypothesis will soon be dismissed by them since they are basically avid believers of monotheism or cynics who are so dismayed by God that they became atheists.
