  4. That MX 30 is a total waste of time. Why anyone would buy a car like this with an absolute max range of 250 clicks is beyond me. I get the short range city cars for doing the school run and commuting to work but not a SUV style vehicle. I can't listen to people pretend EV and it's infrastructure is great, when it's clearly not. They have a long way to go, but when they get it right, then it's all good.

  7. Here let me help ease your mind: Google "X3 M40i" and you'll cease to worry. Better yet watch Joe Achille's latest youtube video in which he drives an X3 M40i. BMW has long made a variety of sporty cars and luxury cars. You want sporty? M140i, M240i, M2, M3, M4, M5, M6 (M8 on the way), Sporty SUV? X3 M40i, X5M, X6M. There is no shortage of sporty BMWs to choose from. They are just expanding the range as is every manufacturer. Merecdes Benz has made trucks, vans and buses for decades, but they also make the likes of an AMG GT R and an AMG Project one hypercar. I don't hear Merc fans bemoaning that companies direction....

  8. Maybe BMW doesn't want to absorb the cost of the Apple software licencing. In the real world very few people pay for a car in a lump sum. They either lease the car, or pay monthly installments over 3 or 4 years and pay the balance at the end, or use the car as a deposit on a new one. Something like carplay would probably add $2 a month. My car has a bluetooth connection to my iphone and that's it. I can make and receive calls, good enough. No one needs Android Auto or Carplay, but it's nice to have. Personally I can think of other options, that would actually improve the driving experience, that should be included in the cost. BMW isn't even the worst at charging for optional extras. Go fantasy spec a new 911, for eg, on the porsche website. By the time you're done you've added 50% on top of the basic price. That's outrageous!

  9. Chasing Cars I have a 3 series Touring and the boot space is incredibly annoying. You mentioned the good shape of the X3 boot. The 3 series Touring boot is badly shaped and very frustrating. Still it’s a lovely car. The 5’er Touring is definitely a better choice if you need more space :) great review 👍

  12.  @chasingcars  Absolutely, as a second car it does make sense... but how many people can afford second cars let alone spend thousands buying a new EV? They haven't even begun to think sensibly about the consequences of ultimately banning ICE and the mass roll out of EV. They think it's working now because only a tiny fraction of cars on th road are EV, but if EVs became the rule and not the exception it's going to be chaos. The vast majority of people in the world simply will not be able to afford EV let alone be able to charge them. It's typical of fools who believe in "green new deals"; they think the fairytale they've been playing in their heads is going to work in the real world. The headlong rush into EV, when the technology and infrastructure is in it's infancy, is crazy.

  14. Probably the most pointless disappointment of a car in recent times judging by the reception it’s received. It seems to have split opinion 50/50. Most complaints are it’s just a bmw with different clothes on and it doesn’t deserve the name Supra. I kind of agree, it’s never going to be a cult classic like the Mk4 Supra. That said, it’s probably a great drivers car.

  15. Great review, I'd definitely have a fully loaded M50D with air suspension if I could afford one. Just FYI, the 30D is not twin turbo. It's a single twin power turbo. As for the larger kidney grills, well they're smaller than Audi grills, but it does give the new gen of BMW a slightly buck toothed or beaverish look.

  17. Fantastic video :) I must note though, the X5 SUV actually has a smaller footprint than this 5 series Touring, being both slightly shorter and narrower. The X5 also has 80l more luggage space at 650l. Buyers choice obviously, both good cars.

  18. A couple of years ago I did a similar European road trip in my 320D touring and while it returned a stunning 4.5l per 100km economy I could have definitely done with the 5 series luggage space. A 530D would have been perfect.
