  9. kroezem1 no, it means the competition are more fun to drive. He didn’t say anything about the interior ergonomics, build or quality. Kind of like the new M2 Competition Pack is easily more fun to drive than a RS3, but the RS3 interior looks a lot better. I say this as a BMW owner so fanboying.

  15. Do you know what a car this pretty needs? A stonking supercharged V8 under the bonnet. I’m still not down with the feeble range of these EVs. Once they’re capable of a real world cold winters day, heating/lights/sound/nav 400 miles between charges then I’ll be impressed.

  16. Even the current 3 series, which is due to be replaced next year, is a far better drive than this Volvo. It also has more than enough tech to support a safe and pleasurable driving experience even if the interior looks dated. Volvo is all about impressing tech heads, not drivers. That aside Volvo do make great family cars. Definitely worth a consideration.

  25. Just had to fact check you there and after checking the BMW UK website you are partially incorrect. The 420D GC in sDrive and xDrive have the SE trim option, but they are the only ones.

  27. Sir_J these road testers use the highest manufacturer figure to compare to their mixed driving, acceleration tests etc and then claim the car doesn't get close to the claimed figure. My 320D can get up to 62mpg (uk), on the highway, which is very close to the claimed figure. Some owners of 335D xdrive models, which have over 300hp and are obviously AWD claim to get in excess of 55mpg (highway) in ecopro mode. This 520D will get 60+mpg cruising on the highway in eco pro mode.

  33. I don't know why BMW persist with the comedy ride height on the 3 and 4 series xDrive models. The 5 and 7 series xDrive models don't ride that high so there is no excuse, and aftermarket springs can be fitted to lower the car which still work with the adjustable dampers.

  44. For those in the market for a car like this, it would be an excellent choice. I've always been amazed at how Skoda manage to create such good boot space. BMW really lack in that department. My 3 series touring has sub par boot space for a car of it's size. I'm guessing that's because the BMW has a longer bonnet and bigger engine bay due to the need to accomodate the big 3.0l 6cyl engines, but a larger cargo area wouldn't go amiss that's for sure. edit: Nice to see the lovely Ginny again too :)

  45. Alistair Robson how does that explain the larger boot the c class estate has? The whole 3 series cabin is further back because of the longer bonnet. A Skoda doesn’t need to have an engine bay that can fit a 3.0l 6 cyl. Engine.

  47. Craig Seymour you miss my point… There is no point comparing the two engine notes. We all know AMG turbo charged v8s sound incredible. Only perhaps an RS6 with a good after market system can match the AMG. We have to accept that the smaller engines don’t sound as good and focus on other qualities.

  54. I’d certainly want one of these if I had £70k to spend. Perfect family car that’s also fun. Bmw have screwed the pooch not making a M3 mxdrive Touring to rival this or even a M5 Touring to take on the RS6, the panamera sport turismo Turbo, the E63S estate etc. The Alpina B5 Touring is gorgeous but it’s based on a standard 5 series so it’s not an M car rival.
