Francisco De Vitoria in "De Indis" (Lecture 1539...), disagreed with interpretations of Aristotle that claimed that Aristotle had viewed intelligence differences between people as justifying some people to be "natural masters" and others to be "natural slaves" on the basis of intellectual power. De Vitoria recognises the difference exists but it merely sets up a relation akin to parent to child, which ends with adulthood. The "master" here has no right of ownership of the subordinate", no lawful way to use this to accumulate possessions from them, or grounds to cease their "dominion".(De Vitoria Introduction, Q1, and Q2 On the Spanish and the Barbarians)
The paternalistic language in this view is present in Balfour's discussion of Empire (A.J. Belfour: Philosopher and Thinker Chapter "Empire" pgs 200-211) . The use of this language has blinded the Intellectual left both to read Belfour carefully and in context, but ironically the intellectual left also believe their students as immature subordinates and now view everybody outside the University as under their "dominion" by right and law and though the expansion of the University from private to public as also expanding scope of master to salve. Of their university, and they believe, of their "children" e.g the adults in the general population. They do this through various expensive institutional processes of "adult education" for which they are a legion of graduate "informers" paid well. And so there is clearly a risk of perverse incentives, the more they can play up risk, even manufacture harms and do anti racist discourse the more they generate apparent emergency need and so greater scope numbers and power and money. It maybe that the reason for the apparent asymmetric choices of victims and perpetrators here is more to do with the time it takes to devise and produce a load of academic papers and text books and to train a new cohort of students for future community educators.
Ever likely the first lecture/seminar to their would be future educators of the people is on how The White Male Aristotle believed slavery was right. That would be the course "Making a Career Out of risk creation and paternal protection 101" I guess its a sandwich course in disguise and of course cybernetic over time.
I guess the new programs looking for funding will be to re educate everybody against anti-Semitism. Then everybody, in totality, is both a risk, and a child, for them in their absolute dominion.
Thank you Rita Panahi and Dr. Phillip Kiszely and Sky News Australia for the discussion.
