  24.  @Margaret8728  Our form of democracy is federalism. No other country, partly because no other democracy is a large in population or geography, uses federalism. Federalism involves independent governing units. To retain federalism as a democratic form, you need to have every state have representation. We use the electoral college and equal senate representation to achieve that. Without the electoral college, five states always -- always - would elect the president and the system falls apart. Read the Federalist papers, which explain it further.
