Cities are not “loosening” restrictions. They are mandating changes on the owners whether they want them or not. The cities need to be paying for their mistakes or fixing them without creating new victims. I lived in a corner store neighborhood, and it was great. The trolley was gone, but the stop had a church, bakery, deli, and small book store. The houses closest to those amenities were lower in value. Who will compensate people who have to put up with the new construction and then continued issues including reduced property value? Also, there are LOTS of government policies still in effect making more issues for the future! The easiest, most sensible, and fairest move would be to stop making the same mistakes in new areas. We have all these problems because the fools of decades ago thought they knew “what’s best” and locked us in. “What’s best” changes! I’m really tired of all these “solutions” that are easy on government and busy bodies while creating more and more problems. “First do no harm” needs to be the new government motto.
