  1. for over 250 years it has been standard military usage to include all combat seriously wounded (roughly, wounded requiring medical evacuatuon) PLUS all combat deaths under the term "casualties." it is always a compound term. combat dead alone are NEVER referred to as casuaties, except by amateurs.
