  1. It's simple. Republicans want Canada's resources but not the legal protections Canadians have. They want it cheap when they could easily invest in desalination instead. And they want unrestricted, zero cost access to the Northwest Passage when they could easily negotiate fees close to those paid going through the St. Lawrence Seaway. The security of this passage would then naturally become a priority.
