  4. Heh. It's not just loan words (not "loanwords"), though. There are words modified to fit foreign grammar more naturally. This was done particularly with Latin and Greek suffixes and prefixes.

  7. The English system has nothing to do with wanting to be different or better. It is our ancestral system. Everyone else in the world has abandoned theirs for the homogenous French system and take pride in that. I for one take pride in the opposite.

  11. Globalization and diversity are on opposite sides of the coin. France has this idea of pure French language, and tries to regulate and protect the language. English, of course, is the mutt of language although I do find some unnecessary loanwords to be repulsive. For instance, "tsunami." Quality word, but not our language. 'Tis a tidal wave.

  12. I would say 500 year old English is legible. The vocabulary is weird and the grammar is odd, but it's there. 600 years, different language though.

  24. I almost applied for that scholarship. But it wasn't really my dream to go to Korea, it was my dad's, and they required extensive references and a lesson plan and pretty much, you have to end your life and move it there. I was never sure that was the right thing to do. So this guy came a long long way and suceeded.
