I can tell you a storrry about why the chicken crossed the rrroad.

I believe "née" isn't English.
1
I believe you are wrong.

Née.
1
Now you're using English. Hint: English words do not need to be translated. French words do. * neighs*

I stated my point. Are you trying to be a troll? I use a dictionary when I don't know the definition of a word. When there's an unabridged mess nearby full of foreign loan words, I don't seek to validate them thereby. The dictionary verifies that "née" is not English.
1
It's not used commonly by anyone here, by any means, therefore it's an invalid construction.

Well, THIS word is not English, it's a French loan word, literary at best, and while we're on the subject of ad hominem insults, you would know that if you had the wit to read the URL you posted here. One example is simply wrong, and the other is from a Rhodesian book about a Rhodesian, where I can only assume if not in some fictional character they use "née" more than we do here. https://books.google.com/ngrams/graph?content=n%C3%A9e%2C+maiden&year_start=1800&year_end=2000&corpus=15&smoothing=3&share=&direct_url=t1%3B%2Cn%C3%A9e%3B%2Cc0%3B.t1%3B%2Cmaiden%3B%2Cc0

Yes, it does. It's very misleading by itself. I'm aware. You have a very high opinion of yourself to think I didn't check "née" alone. Those other words are words we use. Not "née" which I have heard in speech a grand total of 0 times so far. And yes, the book is by a Rhodesian about a Rhodesian character, but you seemingly can't piece that together even though I gave you the information. And as far as running one's mouth off, I don't remember replying to you. You jumped in and decided you were going to set me straight. If only you knew what you were talking about...
1
It can be a low opinion of others or a high opinion of yourself; take your pick. You think you know better and have superior literacy and therefore talk down to people who may in fact have a point. Then when things don't go your way you start calling nice internet people who know a thing or two "barely literate." Who the fuck are you, with your incorrect quotation marks and apostrophes, and repeated inability to recognize what I pointed out about your source? I never said I "object to Collins." I don't care.
1
You chose to ignore what I said about the Rhodesian book. You decided for yourself that you were too good to verify anything. I didn't ignore your second source either, but you may have noticed at some point it became less about "née" and more about how you chose to go about talking to me. And that "obscure line graph" is an amalgamation of vast data. If you knew what you were talking about, you might not find it so "obscure." But you don't! You prefer to belittle anything I say to accepting a point and moving on. You're full of yourself.
