Lived in Australia my whole life and never even come close to a snake bite thankfully. And seen maybe 4 in the wild in my entire life(outside of zoos). One from distance during a bush/trails walk in the blue mountains. And 2-3 when growing up, in my grandparents back yard in South East Queensland. They had bushland behind their home at the time. One was a dead(thankfully) brown snake. Something had got to it. And the other was carpet python, which is not venomous. Oh and a green tree snake which is harmless. But even those experiences were limited to being in or around bushland at the time. Living near the city in Sydney for 15 years never saw any. (You will see warning signs for snakes if you go on some trail walks). And have not seen any since being back in North Brisbane the last year either. It just isn't the common thing it's made out to be in the media or online. Certainly not if you're living in coastal suburbs near or around cities. Obviously out in regional bushland areas is a bit different.

Coke in Australia also uses cane sugar. HFCS is banned for use in products here. We have a large cane sugar industry and it's much cheaper here. I agree about the glass bottle! When I treat myself to a coke I'll pay a little extra for the glass bottle variety if available. Second choice, a can, last choice, plastic bottle. When i drink soft drink, I usually drink bundaberg gingerbeer or their pink grapefruit or a sprite. I tend to drink them more in summer as just water all day doesnt cut it for me. I am prone to dehydrate easy. My oyher go to is pure coconut water for natural electrolytes.

ย @saltyaussie7702ย By sea takes a few months but Airmail is 2-4wks. Miine took 3 weeks. Got a notification that it was delivered to IL a couple weeks ago. But apparently Ian is in new Mexico for a few months. Which I only discovered the other day. So I'm not sure when he receive packages. I assume someone will be picking them up from the post office for him.
4
Haha I hear ya ๐. The tracking should tell you if it arrived at the destination in IL. I also sent a couple of packages. they apparently arrived a couple weeks ago. These videos look like they maybe have been filmed a while back. Ian said they're staying in New Mexico for a few months. So I assume that they have people picking up their packages. So there may be a delay in seeing them open them. I love watching these videos. Fascinated by the things people come up with to send. Such generous people out there. And Ian and the family are always so genuine and grateful and excited. ๐

Plus check is also another word in America. Write a check. Or cheque, here.
4
Yeah I've noticed that. Another American YouTuber was saying that trade jobs and skills are not looked on as highly or valued in America as they are here. Like it's considered a good or a solid choice to study a trade or do an apprenticeship after highschool here. But apparently over there there's an expectation to go to university/college after highschool. I mean that's great if you're going to college to study and actual career path. Otherwise it's a waste of money to be stuffing around trying to figure out what you want to do lol. College isn't the be all and end all. There's many pathways in life. None more superior than the other.

ย @MajorMalfunctionย lol what a load of rubbish. I've lived in multiple states in Australia and there's good coffee in all of them. Melbourne isn't the only place with Italian migrants or access to High quality beans, well trained Barista's and good quality machines.
3
Yes many cafes do shut early. But you can still get coffee at some places til late at night. Brisbane suburbs where Ross is is a bit different to Sydney and Melbourne for example where things are open much later. And of course you can always get coffee til late at 7 eleven, petrol stations and maccas etc. The barefoot thing is over exaggerated, it is NOT Australia wide and it's not socially acceptable everywhere tbh. I lived in Sydney for 13 years and never saw anyone do this outside of the beach areas and parks which of course we've all done at some point. But certainly not in supermarkets and shops. Many places here do have a dress code. I think it's more of a regional Queensland thing. Personally I think it's a bit grubby and disrespectful to enter a place of business with bare feet. And can potentially be dangerous if you step on something or slip. Also in summer in many places, the road and footpath is hot, you would not want to walk barefoot on the bitumen. Ok, I think the "free" refill thing is a bit misleading. Is it truly "free"? The business are not giving you something out of pure generosity. The cost of freebies is coming out of somewhere. And guess where it comes from? From the insanely low, unliveable wages the staff are being paid in the states. Plus you're paying like 30% in tips too to make up for the wages that the employer refuses to pay. Personally I'm more than happy to pay for every drink at an establishment where I know the staff are being paid a decent wage and I don't have to pay extra to make up their pay check. ๐คทโโ๏ธ

"I'm not a surfer" ๐. Just in case there was any doubt. ๐ I remember all those surf wear brands growing up. (And a couple of now deceased ones). Never heard of Jimmy Grants. Must be a Melbourne only chain.
3
You have to do that in Australia anyways. The customs label in mandatory. You have to declare the contents and the value. You also have to provide a contact phone number and email. At least I've always had to when mailing overseas. So I'm surprised that Ian said there was no way to contact Sam ๐คท. Aus post does automatically insure to the value of $100. You can purchase additional insurance if you choose.
3
Interesting video. The bright orange cheddar cheese in America is always weird to me lol. Our cheddar is a natural pale yellow. Apparently they use annatto or something to dye cheddar orange in the US. Why do they think that any cheese should be bright orange though? ๐คทโโ๏ธ
3
Was about to say the same thing!๐ Seems like just yesterday she was tiny and getting newborn/infant clothes sent from Australia!
3
Gee I couldn't understand some of it and I'm an Aussie lol. This is definitely put on and exaggerated for tik tok. The average Aussie definitely doesn't speak like that! Some Aussies do mess with Americans and take the piss. I think because sarcasm and dry humour often goes over Americans heads they will take what we say literally and not get that it's tongue in cheek or a piss take. So an easy target sometimes lol.
3
Congrats on the 100k subscribers! ๐๐ And happy Thanksgiving to you all over there ๐ฆ. Enjoy the time with your family. I think many of us have learned things from this channel right along with you๐.
3
In Aus, we're also taught that the Americas are two separate continents, North and South America. I think this is the most widely held view. We usually refer to the country as The US, USA or The States. And yes we'd call you Americans. I mean there isn't another word to use instead ๐คทโโ๏ธ. USians? Statesians? ๐. If I meet someone and I'm not 100% sure if they're from the US or Canada, I'll ask "where abouts in North America are you from?"
3
Honeycomb is something we've grown up on, so many brands do it. And then you can also by home made stuff at the markets. That being said I'm not a fan of Crunchie. Too sweet and I don't like the texture. Violet crumble is far superior.๐ The texture is way better. I don't like those Turkish delight bars either. My Nana loves them lol. We have a lot of middle Eastern restaurants and foods here, so I have tried some proper Turkish delight. Made with rose water and even some with orange water. It's better than those commercial bars, but still not my thing. Another one that you probably won't like is musk sticks. They taste like what I imagine pot pourri perfume tataes like ๐.
3
Yes true we do have a lot more local/small take away shops and stuff here. And many fish n chip shops and cafes still have those communal tables with the complimentary bottles of sauces and chicken salt. One I went to recently had them all attached to plastic chains and bolted down ๐. Wow. Guess people were taking them?
3
LMAO re Torana. ๐. Why do I feel like Ian probably considered that for a second? ๐
3
Settle down Mr negative. It's not that deep๐. Most Aussie burgers with the lot have pineapple slice and beetroot on them. And who cares about bacon? Not everyone wants that. I think it's great that they're trying new things and flavours. Your negative response is ridiculous.
3
I tend to find older Aussies use the "half past" etc and more and younger will say four thirty, four 45 etc. Myself, I am used to a 24 hour clock after working in travel and with airlines etc for years. Old habit. Cheese is orange in America because of the use of colouring like annato.
3
Would definitely love to see you guys try your hand at a sausage sizzle.๐ Though I don't think you really need to rest the sausages that long if you don't want to. Try to get beef or pork sausages. Might need to venture outside of the supermarkets there to find.
3
ย @fransmith3255ย haha yep. They also call it a "restroom" which is even more strange. Are you.... resting in there ?
3
I've honestly never said "g'day mate"in my life๐. Most people just say Hi or Hey or maybe "hey mate". Mate is said a lot but the g'day not so much. At least not if you're in or with in a couple hours of the cities. In really rural or regional areas they night say it a bit more.
3
It's a lovely book that has all these different child characters who have different backgrounds. Some born in Australia and some born overseas. Basically spreading a lovely message that we are all Australian.
3
The tourism boards should fund Ian and his family to come here for 6-12 months and travel around the country making content. Maybe in Caravan (like he said he'd love to do).
3
ย @robby1816ย ย haha yeah they do their own thing in Byron. Shoes were definitely a requirement at my schools growing up! Safety and all. I can remember though as a kid some days the sun was so hot that the sand would burn your feet as your ran down to the water. You were taking a risk walking into any rd in bare feet!
3
Yes definitely The Castle! And "Muriel's wedding" with Toni Collette.
3
๐ At least you had fun! And Ian and Emma enjoyed them so thats the main thing. Unfortunately with sponge cake recipes you can't really change the ingredients so much self raising flour is best and you need all the eggs. Powered sugar is not caster sugar, just use regular white sugar if you cant by caster. You can also just take the easy route and buy a pre made sponge cake and then just decorate it! ๐
3
I actually find the staff at fast food places in Australia usually friendly and happy๐คทโโ๏ธ, probably because they're earning a decent wage. Of course I've had both friendly and rude wait staff here and overseas. That's life. But generally speaking I've found most wait staff in Australia to be good, attentive, friendly and coming over to make sure things are ok with the meal.
3
It's an interesting video. Whether it's all 100% true who can say ๐คทโโ๏ธ. But many countries have discovered rocks placements similar to Stonehenge so why not Australia. They are discovering more n more about this continents history all the time. Another interesting one is the Wurdi Youang stone arrangement in Victoria. Hypothesised by scientists to possibly be the oldest astronomical sites in the world. People/settlers for years dismissed Indigenous Australian claims of how long they'd been here. But then Mungo man was discovered in the dried up lakes of lake mungo and was dated back 40+ thousand years and some Aboriginal tools have also been found which date back 60 thousand. There's also millions of petroglyphs in Murujuga. The largest collection in the world. Dating back 40+ thousand years. Which are soon to be heritage listed(on the UNESCO tentative list). Check that out sometime. There's also all the megafauna/Dinosaurs bones and artefacts. We have the world's only proof of a dinosaur stampede discovered too. Look up Winton Dinosaurs in Qld.
3
Haha that was fun ๐. You did better than most people. Better than I could do, I haven't thrown one since I was in school.
3
I've definitely been asked whether we celebrate the fourth of July and Thanksgiving on Australia. Trivia, our Logie Awards in Australia (like your Emmys) were named after Logie Baird, the inventor of television.
3
I have to admit I found it a bit distasteful and tone deaf in the current climate in the US, for her to be posing for pictures with firearms.
3
Ah yeah sadly that does make the likelihood of theft a little higher. Especially if the box wasn't taped up too good. Australia post does automatically insure up to the value of $100. And you can purchase extra insurance at the counter if you choose to. I agree with not sending anything too valuable. Or even if you really want to maybe order said item through an actual company that sells it and have them send directly to you.
3
๐ฒ WOW. That's quite the haul!. Incredibly generous of everyone. Sydney is adorable she's got so big. And is a mini Ian with those eyes and hair ๐ฅฐ. Emma is so cute in her little outfit, and pretty like her mum ๐ฅฐ๐ธ. Andrews a cutie too and seems a lot more chatty now ๐. Wonder why the delay with the post on US end. They definitely receive them in around 1-2 wks from Aus. I know that from my own experience, we get notifications when it's been delivered to the destination/recipient.
3
Yeah true. Canberra can get very cold in winter too๐ฅถ. I visited there once in August and it was absolutely freezing. But overall compared to parts of the US not as extreme in differences I guess. They often have people snowed in. Icy dangerous roads.
3
Thanks Ian๐. At first I didn't remember suggesting it๐. But then soon as it started I remembered. And yes it was really well done. Looks so pretty and pristine๐. I haven't been to Lord Howe yet, but visually some of the shots remind me a little of parts of O'ahu, Hawaii, which I have been to. I've never been anywhere in Australia with *that* many spiders inside at once, not yet anyways. It's not the norm to see that many indoors in most places. While we're on Islands, side note - Moreton Island (near Brisbane) is also nice to visit. You can get a ferry from Brisbane. Lots of fun activities for the family (snorkeling, boat rides, sand dune toboganing, feeding dolphins etc) as well as FWD. It's a good option for people who maybe don't have the time or money to visit a the islands further or up north. You can even visit just for a day trip. Aquarius did a good one recently on a day trip to Moreton. I'll throw it up over on the D. ๐
3
Haha Ian, you looked funny in that tiny lil car ๐๐.
3
Thanks for that Ian ๐๐ I came across that one accidentally, immediately thought of you and popped the suggestion over on the D.๐
3
I don't put sugar on mine. But agree on the fruit. I put a bunch of mixed berries(frozen or fresh) or a banana on top. I prefer mine soft like porridge, tastes better. I don't like it cold and crunchy. Put a little mill of choice over it to coat it and breaks them up and microwave it for 30 seconds. Then add more milk and berries.
3
Omg I literally just typed the same suggestion in the comment lol. Westall UFO 1966. Fascinating story no matter that you believe.
3
Hey Ian, can you please look into your discord link. I have not been able to join for months as it says expired or invalid every time. Others have commented the same thing.

Always nice to see a family update. All the best with everything in the next couple of weeks. Dani looks glowing and I noticed she was wearing the Indigenous print headband I sent ๐. Lol at the Aussie city name suggestions in the comments๐. I mean maybe as a middle name...yeah nah not really ๐ I'll throw in Kylie as a middle name suggestion lol๐๐ Fun fact - The name Kylie is of Indigenous Australian origin. From the Australian Aboriginal language Nyungar, deriving from the Aboriginal word โkileyโ or โkila,โ meaning โboomerang.โ An early bearer was the author Kylie Tennant (1912). But it wasn't until the 1970s & 1980s that it became very popular in Australia (Kylie minogue helped with that lol) and other western countries. Some also think of it as the female version of Kyle. But seriously though whatever you name your child will be beautiful and perfect ๐ P.s I think we all would love to see more family videos. And more cooking of course. I know some other creators do have a separate vlog/family Channel for these types of things. But it's also fine if you prefer to keep it on the one channel too. Whatever works best for you.
3
ย @midnightkitchen8379ย ๐. Glad you're doing well with the pregnancy. Haha yeah there's so many interesting and beautiful names out there. Maybe the name will come to you when the baby is born and you will just know.๐ถ It's cool that the kids are comfortable with the cameras around and able to be part of some videos. Emma is adorable, I can totally see that with her stories. โฅ๏ธ Take care, not long now!
3
Decent list. A lot more that didn't make it but also in demand, especially as unemployment rates drop. Aged care workers for our nursing homes, truck drivers for our supply chains etc etc etc
2
I usually prefer tea. But for coffee, an Australian flat white. We don't serve drip filter here thankfully. Always Espresso machines. Reminds me of a video I stumbled across the other day. "7 eleven coffee rabbit hole" lol https://youtu.be/WRFVNZgnEEM
2
Omg! Hiii Sydney! What a cutie. Wasn't expecting an Aussie connection first name! But how perfect, all things considered ๐ฅบ๐ฅฐ. I've always loved that name for a girl too. And some day I'm sure little Sydney will visit Sydney! Congratulations to you all โค๏ธ

I am finding this new system of displaying comments a bit frustrating. I've also tried numerous times to leave feedback on several vids& each time it's removed! And other comments from people are being hidden. Not your fault but it makes it less fun to engage on here๐. I've also been trying for ages to show you guys something I made for your family for Christmas...from Christmas in Brisbane displays. But again it keeps getting removed. So I've emailed it to you, hope you get to see it soon ๐ Not sure how regularly you check there. And there's no direct contact here.๐คทโโ๏ธ Anyway merry Christmas. If this doesn't get deleted too...๐
2
ย @parkesyreviewsstuff7587ย yeah sadly it went into receivership and closed about 10 years ago. It was always busy when I was a kid. Such a fun place to visit. I can remember riding the nutmobile and the sugar cane train. And going up to the top of the big pineapple itself and waving down below. Lol
2
Thanks for this Ian๐, I'm still catching up on videos but had drop a quick comment on this one. I love dream time stories. We visited and drove by these mountains a lot as kids. Mount Timbrogagen definitely has a face from certain angles as you drive by. There's a famously much photographed road along stunning rolling hills, heading to the mountain. The Blue Mountains has a dream time story about "The Three Sisters" rock formations too.
