I've heard both in here. Though usually you'd just say the register rather cash register.

Not everyone has a bogan or ocker accent though. He sounds similar to me and my friends. And I didn't go to any private schools or grow up with money😆. Australia has different accents and inflections. Just as America and England does. His type of accent is more common than the broad accent these days. And these people are all teaching English overseas, so they probably are more aware of speaking clearly.

Plus check is also another word in America. Write a check. Or cheque, here.

@blairchristie910 I just say the police when referring to them collectively. And if it's a police officer, I'd usually say officer for short or police officer. But cops is definitely something that you'll hear people say here. It's not uncommon.

@annanz0118 Exactly!. He didn't sound posh or British, at all!. Sounds like the average Australian to me. I speak similarly. And nope I am not "posh" and didn't grow up with money or go to private schools. Not everyone has an ocker or bogan accent lol. I get tired of people saying or thinking that all Aussies are supposed to sound the same and have this "strine" or ocker accent. Tbh more would have a standard accent rather than broad one. People understand that Americans and Brits all have differing accents depending where that are from yet with Australia, some can be ignorant and think there's only one "real" Australian accent🙈. Australia has many accents and inflections. 🤷♀️

Definitely depends on where you grew up. Where I did in Qld and later NSW, we never used Milk Bar. It was always the corner store/shop or even just the local shop and sometimes deli. And in more recent years the larger ones called convenience store. With cash register I mostly hear it shortened to "register". Yeah the public don't say til. The workers would.
