Yes the UV is more intense here in summer than in the Northern Hemisphere. Due to the earth's orbit bringing us closer to the sun. There's also our low pollution levels that contribute to this. Pollution absorbs some UV, so ironically, the cleaner the air the more UV that hits the surface. Tasmania has the cleanest air in Australia yet the most intense UV year round, even though it doesn't get really hot there temp wise, the UV bites. If the UV is 3 or more which it is most days in summer (Often to the extreme levels of 11-13) then you need full protection. Groceries are generally a bit cheaper here. Kaitlyn Amanda even did a video on this. And I've seen a couple of other expat Americans say the same in videos. The quality of food here is higher, our food standards/laws are higher or stricter.
