  1. Agree. Preservation of language and culture is so important. I've always thought it was good that some Maori language is taught in New Zealand schools and some words integrated into everyday speak. I have long thought we could and should do this in Australia too. Though I understand it is more complicated as there is no "one" language. Obviously a lot of consultation with Indigenous communities and Elders would need to happen to decide on what is taught and where. And of course to get permission to teach it the first place. From what little I know (please correct me if I'm wrong), I believe it's proper protocol to get permission from Elders to teach or share Indigenous languages. I would like to see some language be taught in the school system and by Indigenous/First nations Australian teachers or community leaders.
