  1. It definitely doesn't normally snow in that area. So they weren't prepared. I've seen a lot of people from the Northern hemisphere visit here and say it actually feels colder in Australian winter because the the "real feel" factor is often much colder than the actual temperature. We get arctic blasts. You will likely feel colder indoors in Australia than in Europe too for example. Because our houses are designed for summer. So the doors gaps etc. And also we don't have widespread central heating. I've seen Canadians say they've never felt so cold indoors in winter as they did in Australia.
