American pop culture/slang definitely has worked it's way here. Though that's not really new but it's increased. I wouldn't say that we sound American in any way though. There's still a lot of Aussie slang floating around :) The general or standard accent which is more neutral is the most common. Though people from overseas expect us to sound like Steve Irwin lol and most of us, don't. The ethnic Australian accents are a lot more common now too. Go to western Sydney for example and you'll definitely hear that accent a lot. SA sound a little more British influenced than the rest of us in how they pronounce certain words like dance and plant for example. Best Aussie accent was Kate Winslet in the Aussie movie "The Dress maker" and Dev Patel in the Aussie movie "Lion." Which is a fantastic movie based on a real story. My favourite American accent? I quite like yours. And probably a broad New York. Always makes me think of certain movies😆. But the one we'd hear most common I guess would be a standard California type of accent which is also cool.

@bonnielee78 Haha yep. I got mistaken for a Brit a lot when travelling. I'm not from SA but I guess to some it's hard to differentiate between English and Australian accents lol. I've also been mistaken for a kiwi....by a kiwi! On a flight to Hawaii😆. Kate Winslets accent in The Dressmaker was amazing.

@bonnielee78 haha I haven't been mistaken for an Austrian yet but I did once get mistaken for a Canadian by Americans when I was in Hawaii 😂🤷♀️. That was the same trip that I was mistaken for a Kiwi on the flight lol
