  3. Surely what you're describing is the opposite of liberalism? I get that in practice the 'liberals' may operate like that but that's not what word means. It feels like we're all just using words but we all have different meanings for them, like the Tower of Babel.

  5. It doesn't have to be so all or nothing. In the UK I had one year maternity leave for each baby to care for them properly, enable breastfeeding etc, then used benefits when my kids were young which enabled me to work part-time when they were very young & then when they were both in school I went back full-time & stopped using benefits. That is a good system.
