There were the vendors but also a LOT of scammers with their shell games etc.. so good theyre gone now and it a safety issue 100%.. an already narrow path with carts as extra obstacles.. let there be a panic (like the on in TS a couple years ago) and people will run into the carts, get trampled and die..Street vendors belong to NYC, no question but NOT on the bridges
34
@infamoussnyc3761 missing his point entirely... have a panic on the bridge and people will get trampled and die. do you thank thats fine?
31
and it wasnt 10-15 years ago... rolling carts onto the narrow walkway is insane ifd you think about it rationally
25
are you kidding? 59 St-Columbus Circle ..ABCD train.. then walk..Its only half a mile @alkohal
21
You know how many people are killed in traffic? She should be afraid of taxis, not subways
21
@lilphilosophy481 its pretty cold on the bridge so probably not.. LA isnt cold, unlike NYC
11
imagine a panic on there like the one in TS a couple years ago.. people will get trampled and die..
10
its not you dont even have a constitutional right to drive or own a car
9
@twiztidclownkiller the bridge was empty in 2013.. why are you all making shit up?
8
@Tattiepoo1 at least noth thats freshly prepared. most of these carts are awful from a sanitary standpoint
7
@cathynewyork7918 YES! This is so true!
7
and before that it was trains and horse carriages.. NEVER a place to sell and buy!
6
@scottharm3932 expecting to impede people trying to sell fake and stolen goods is entitlement galore!
5
yeah. exactly.. this wasnt a thnki 10+ years ago.. end even then it was crowded on the bridge.. having carts block the path for people in case of a panic is a catastrophy waiting to happen..
5
there is ZEWRO space for that on the bridge though..
5
@williamt104 and dont you dare to step on their blankets that are illegally blocking the sidewalk.. ive been threatened so often by them i can barely count it anymore..
5
Paying for entering with a car is just logical!
4
@thearpox7873 "unpleasent" encounters.. i consider it unpleasent to sit in traffic and breath exhaust fumes for hours, a homless man on the subway doesnt bother me.. i guess we arent the same
4
@EkoFranko In the middle ages... But BB was never designed for that! It was designed for trains and people to cross. Thats it!
4
and a lot of stolen goods as well
4
@kirkdogg007 im not gonna read that dribble. try some punctuation marks!
3
@thearpox7873 Considering the amount of people that use it every day (MILLIONS!) without anything happening to them this argument is downright BS!
3
@mountainneko WTF does VEgas have to do with european cities. Vegas is about the exact opposite of a european city!
3
Free market capitalism for ya... 1% gets richer and richer and the rest gets poorer and poorer
3
absolute BS.. on most lines there is a trains every couple minutes.. @DJDynamite
2
there were ZERO vendors on the bridge for 120+ years.. vendors being on there is an entirely new thing..
2
This needs to be punished WAY harder..
2
@thearpox7873 Never happened to me in over 15 years in this city.. I guess, youre just unlucky..
2
Good, dont honk!
2
@Juggalo972 if youre making a joke, at least mark it as such.. This is the internet buddy!
2
@cuppa_coffee_nyc Keep honking and enjoy your 2.5k fine.. now get lost!
2
Sure, BIG Subway is coming to take your cars.. have you guys sucked on your exhaust pipes?
2
@kr on the bridge? Oh shut up!
2
@kirkdogg007 did you eat lead paint or something?
2
And NYC already has good public transport compared to the rest of the country
2
uweschacher4693 digital currences are already contrrolled by governments.. what are you talking about.. they can make that shit illegal tomorrow if they want to and shut everything down
1
That was a PR stunt, nothing more
1
works in europe... they get bad weather too.. @peterwelby
1
most of them could use an electro cargo bike @califlitchmore3602
1
street vendors ON THE BB were never a part of NYC until 8-10 years ago.. wasnt a thing for 120+ years..
1
@kirkdogg007 im not gonna read that dribble. try some punctuation marks!
1
@scottharm3932 Exactly. Lets not mandate emergency exists, fireproof building or traffic rules.. nothing gonna happen anyway.... some people will die but hey, some other people have to sell their cheap tat.. seriously. are you insane?
1
@scottharm3932 again.. not reading that. go to school and learn how write complete sentences
1
@cathynewyork7918 dont try to argue with people like him. they have 2 braincells
1
@joefer5360 way too cold up there for them
1
@MirzaAhmed89 exactly..
1
financing your $5000 rent with selling shirts and keychains from a cart was BS anyway..
1
non commercial cars from non residents should be entirely banned in manhattan..the neediest dont live there and take public transport anyway
1
You should be concerned about stuff like the patriot act, not noise reduction messures that are desperatly needed
1
@puremichpaule you, youve been spied on by your own government for 20 years.. i gues that makes it okay.. youre such a bootlicker
1
i take trains and buses everywhere and how often do people have to go to NJ at 2am? you cant run a city of over 8 million people and take every single personal problem into account. That obviously doesnt mean that there shouldnt be 24/7 trains or buses to the suburbs.. im all for that! @DJDynamite
1
@DJDynamite i already said that i support better public transport, especially at night! but the vast, vast majority of workers in manhatten doesnt have to work night shift.. The avalanche of cars thats rolling through manhatten every day cant continie like that!
1
exactly. other cities around the world allow fleamarkets in certain areas were its safe bridges ARE not safe for commerce!
1
Hostile architecture is disgraceful
1
@mountainneko Tell me youve never been to London without tellinge me..
1
is there a permit to block emergency exits? no. blocking the path in both directions with carts is exactly like blocking an emergency exit!
1
everyone who doesnt do it like this is a moron..
1
the other state is less than a mile away.. @korcommander
1
Meanwhile where im from (Hanover, Germany) the subways stations are being kept open 24/7 so the homeless HAVE a place to go in the winter..
1
6k rent but no maintenace .. late tage capitalism..doesnt happen in europe with buildings WAY older
1
@MirzaAhmed89 considering their sanitary state, im not surprised they are cheap..
1
now imagine a packed bridge and someone hears a loud "BANG" (like the TS incident a couple years ago) and everyone start to panic and run on a path thats already narrow but now half the width because of the carts.. its madness this was accepted for so long
1
Riiiight.. being against useless honking is "woke" now.. You truly got brain worms
1
@bwofficial1776 WRONG! WRONG! WRONG!.. Most US cities were founded in the 1800s! There were no cars! They were then DESTROYED for the car in the 1940s and 1950s..
1
@Hashdollars you wanna see the photos i took in 2013? ZERO verndors on the bridge. Youre full of shit! The fact that you love all that chinese fake crap they sell says it all..
1
aka a flea market.. why isnt NYC doing exactly that
1
i also smell BS with this one.. how many shirts and key chains do they sell to finance their lives ? 5000 a month?
1
the walkways is from 1883 and already WAY TO NARROW for that amount of people. blocking that little space there is with carts is absolutely insane. its like blocking an emergency exit!
1
Good.. its not gonna go any faster if you honk. Honking is for emergencies not to let out your frustration! Im so tired by car owners whining about everythng that is needed to make this city more liveable for everyone, not just drivers who are mostly not even living where they drive and occupy space "wwaahahh, no free parking" "waaahh, i cant honk anymore"
1
Good.. tear them down and build housing instead.. ban private cars from the city entirely!
1
@vdoggydogg3922 freedom to honk? man, your life must be sad..
