Irish Catholic emogrstedc en masse during and after the potato famine. They stood out because they were not Protestant and suffered much discrimination. This is why Irish -American identity is strong. Mogg has no clue though. By leaving the EU the UK is no longer the voice of America in Brussels. It is less important. It is weaker.

  11. He has known of his is Irish ancestry since he was a boy. He only aware of one strand, it turns out that two branches of his family tree come from Ireland.

  12.  msmissy6888  No there's not, stop exaggerating. There are a few hundred thousand people of Irish extraction who have closer links than Biden. But they are not proud of it. They are working class and lower middle class people trying to fit in, in a country where multi-layered identities are simply not understood. Also, the elite strata of Britain is closed to the Irish. That is not the case in the US.
