That's the role of the Irish police. There are no hordes. They exist within the minds of fascists.

Stupid comment.

They do prevent infiltration attempts, but they are not always successful; they cannot prevent rockets being fired from outside their area of operations. The Israeli's have used the Irish for target practice in the past and have been responsible for the deaths of many Irish soldiers, either directly or indirectly. Apparently, sitting a big white building with the letter UN on it in black and under a blue UN flag is not sufficient for Israeli tankers.. The Irish army only requires light-armoured vehicles for UN Peacekeeping. Peacekeepers are restricted in the types of equipment they can use for peace keeping. The joke is your post.

Take it up with the UN. It is not the Irish troops who set the mandate, the UN Security Council does thaat.
2
This is new historical information - tell us more!
2
I doubt it.
2
It would be much worse if UNIFIL were not there, as you well know. UN troops are extremely limited in what they can do anyway - they can't even shoot first, as you well know. When the shooting starts they take cover, but they do not run away.

There are Christians in Lebanon also, some of the oldest Christian sects in fact; what Irish people have been killed by muslims in Ireland?
1
The murder of the Irish soldier last year is a matter for the Lebanese authorities to prosecute. I know the Israeli's under the current regime have little time for international law, but the Irish still respect it. Does this bother you? Have the Irish behaved differently from when Israeli's murdered Irish troops?
1
Well, it would be a lot worse if they weren't there....
1
@dochollywood6749 Who wants a UN with teeth? Its membership doesnt. How much worse are the attacks on northern Israel now when compared to 1978?
1
Rubbish. The Irish sympathize with the Palestinians, but that does not mean we hate Israel.
1
That sounds like a different report. This report was on the Irish troops serving with UNIFIL. The report you want would be called 'the effectiveness of UNIFIL in completing its mandate.
1
@dansiegel333 See my previous post.
1
'The Irish are themselves IRA terrorists' This is so stupid, only an American could write it
1
That would have made the BBC the propaganda tool of Israel, right? Is that the purpose of the BBC? To represent Israel?
1
How do you know how many attacks they are preventing?
1
Yes, many people in the Irish area of operations in South Lebanon speak English with Irish accents.
1
@nnagildan8455 Hoardes? Stop using words you don't understand. Using a tri-colour as an avatar is embarrassing your nation.
1
They war in NI is over since 1998 because of a peace process. There was no military solution to the NI problem, and there is no military solution to the Israel v Palestinian problem either. Everybody needs to sit down and talk.
1
Probably because the report is about the Irish troops in UNIFIL.
1
@עומר124 They are. But the UN troops understand that both sides are terrorists, while you only think its the guy with the smaller gun.
1
The UN force is a peace keeping mission, nor a peace enforcement one. However, if they were not there, Israel would have have occupy the ground to secure their northern border and it would destablize the whole region. Would Israel be any safer? Hardly.
1
Stupid comment. Hizbullah have been responsible for the deaths of Irish soldiers, and UNIFILs mandate is limited. Hizbullah can work around UNIFIL, same way as Israeli's have done in the past when they tried to undermine UNIFIL through Ireland; Ireland were viewed by Israel as the weak link. They weren't. Hizbullah killed an Irish soldier last year, and have little time for the Irish either. By the way, the Irish have seen how the Israeli's operate in South Lebanon. The Israeli's are no angels.
1
Tanks? Armored Personnel Carriers.
1
Huh?
1
The current government of Israel sees everybody as an enemy.
1
So, they are wasting resources in South Lebanon because only two ships are not tied up?
1
Who is everybody?
1
There is little history of anti-semitism in Ireland and when when Israel was fighting for its independence, Irish public opinion supported it.
1
Yes. But they have limited rules of engagement.
