  1. Currency and border infrastructure are not insurmountable problems, while the drugs issue is irrelevant. The EU attitude to admitting the Scots has warmed up since 2014 and Spain has said, in diplomatic language of course, that it would not object to the application of a future independent Scotland to join the EU, provided it was all done legally. The EU would not admit the Scots unless it became independent through a legal process. There is no doubt that decoupling the Scottish economy from the UK will be painful experience, but once the Scots have a clear vision of where they want to go it is likely that emotion will win out over the economic cost. This is a common feature of deeply ingrained independence movements: vision and resilience. In order to get to where it wants to go, Westminster needs to grant Scotland a second referendum. This seems unlikely in the short term as the English are not yet prepared to on their own.

  3.  @vintagespeedshop  It wont take Scotland very long because it already meets many standards by virtue of the UKs membership. It may well be fastracked for this reason. First it has to get independent though, and the Tories will drag their feet on that for as long as they can.

  4.  @vintagespeedshop  The article is from the daily express. That rag stated that the UK would never pay the divorce bill. Why does anybody read it any more? Nobody in Scotland does.
