  1.  @anasjudge1937  The Irish health system has had to send ambulances to Northern Ireland to help them cope, and the Irish Health System has coped better than the might NHS throughout the pandemic. Do some research.

  2.  @anasjudge1937  Ireland has had a rolling lockdown. If the UK had done the same it would not have the worst death toll in the whole of Europe.

  6.  @amm287  The EU is not perfect. It is hard to keep all its membership in line and in agreement. However, there is no doubt in my mind that for its faults, and there are many, it has been a force for good. From an Irish perspective, Merkel has been a great leader within the EU. She has been hugely supportive of Ireland in relation to the border issue, something I think she understands well because she grew up on the east. It is remarkable that, in general, Germans seem to be better informed about Ireland, the peace agreement and the border problem than English people are.

  10.  @anasjudge1937  There are no options when it comes to COVID, rolling lockdowns are your only choice. Ireland does have a health system, and we have learned than any problems it has are related to management rather than money.

  11.  @anasjudge1937  There was no UK army on stand by to assist Ireland. The UK has made a pigs ear of C-19 and has the highest death rate in Europe. Its a disaster.

  12.  @anasjudge1937  Northern Ireland and Ireland are two separate entities, it is important to know the distinction. It is also important to know the difference between deaths per million and the total rate - the latter, the UK are the Champions of Europe. And the UK is not yet vaccinated...

  13. ​ @anasjudge1937  Ireland, like Hungary which purchased the Sputnik vaccine, is like every other country in the EU - free to purchase vaccines from where it likes. It CHOOSES to act in solidarity with its EU neighbours and wait as it get its share of the vaccine, thus keeping down the price. Meanwhile, the UK engages in vaccine nationalism as a distraction from the death toll of the plague and the lack of Brexity sunlit uplands.

  14.  @amm287  This is correct. It was the EUs big test for Ireland. They came on board with the GFA, and very quickly in the days after Brexit, agreed that in any united Ireland scenario, Northern Ireland would be automatically enter the EU without there being any internal restrictions within Ireland. Having being shafted by Jean-Claude Trichet for the enormous debt caused by by the Irish banking crisis, there was a nervy moment in the summer of 2016, but so far the EU, the Commission and the other member states, have been 100% behind Ireland. It appears that it is Brexiters that are happy for Ireland to be the collateral damage for Brexit. History demonstrates that when the British establishment goes up its own arse like it has done since June 2016, Ireland always suffers, so we were vigilant in Ireland. So far we've got the least worst Brexit we could have hoped for - and we are hoping it stays that way. Fintain O'Toole is a remarkably perceptive journalist, particularly in relation to Brexit.
