@amm287 This is correct. It was the EUs big test for Ireland. They came on board with the GFA, and very quickly in the days after Brexit, agreed that in any united Ireland scenario, Northern Ireland would be automatically enter the EU without there being any internal restrictions within Ireland. Having being shafted by Jean-Claude Trichet for the enormous debt caused by by the Irish banking crisis, there was a nervy moment in the summer of 2016, but so far the EU, the Commission and the other member states, have been 100% behind Ireland.
It appears that it is Brexiters that are happy for Ireland to be the collateral damage for Brexit. History demonstrates that when the British establishment goes up its own arse like it has done since June 2016, Ireland always suffers, so we were vigilant in Ireland. So far we've got the least worst Brexit we could have hoped for - and we are hoping it stays that way.
Fintain O'Toole is a remarkably perceptive journalist, particularly in relation to Brexit.
