  2. @ sven svenson Nope. A hard border is required. Currency, taxation and even freedom of movement of people are not factors here - its the movement of goods from one regulatory area to another. There is no way of checking goods entering the EU without avoiding a hard border. That hard border needs to be on the island of Ireland or in the Irish Sea. Once customs posts go up they will become targets for terrorists. Police and troops will be required to guard them and then we will be right back were we were 20 years ago. The UK expected Ireland to simply leave the EU with them - Farage still claims this will happen - but the Irish never voted for this. Sadly, the English staggeringly ignorant about the Irish. There is even a petition on the UKs Parliamentary website seeking an invitation to the Republic of Ireland to rejoin the UK! You couldn't make it up!

  3. @ sven svenson Yes, I know what you believe. That's what Brexiters believe. Brexiters believe all sorts of things that nobody else does, and regularly contradict themselves. A backstop is even more necessary given the instability in the UK, and the complete lack of any coherence in the British position.
