Comments by "Taint ABird" (@taintabird23) on "Are Irish citizens in Northern Ireland really being reclassified as British? | #TheCube" video.
In 1169 the King of Leinster sought help against his enemies from the Anglo-Norman Earl of Pembroke, promising him his kingdom and his daughters hand in marriage in return. Henry II, worried that one of his vassals might be setting up a rival kingdom, arrived in Ireland a couple of years later and claimed the whole island for himself. And thus began the sorry shared history of Britain and Ireland. No Englishman showed up in Ireland to protect anybody from the Normans. You are factually incorrect.

Jesus Christ Tom, stay away from history - you're clueless!

You wouldn't be considered weird south of the border, anyway. Get your Irish passport, quick!

@eibhlin5940 well, they were the Anglo-normans. Britishness is just a container for English nationism.

Well, it has taken them 800 years to leave Ireland and they are not fully gone yet.

@jayroberts4926 Oh I don't know. He would fit in well alongside Trump and Johnson wth their attitudes to women and the 'me too ' movement.

@jayroberts4926 Diarmuid McMurrough, King of Leinster, was a man of his time. Trouble is, Trump and Johnson are both of his time too.

In Ireland dual citizenship is perfectly legal, and is an expression of the values in articles 2 and 3 of the Irish constitution.

@ John Mitchel Who said the EU is a sovereign independent country? Citizenship refers to the rights, privileges and duties of a citizen, in this case, the shared identity of membership of the EU, which we hold alongside our national identity and citizenship.
