You would think the English, with their new found love of self-determination, would be more sympathetic to Scots and Welsh nationalists in relation to their aspirations. Its not like England will be better off outside the European Union - it will be a vassal of the United States and a satellite of the EU.

@benowen8321 No Ben, its the English that are taking the UK out of the EU - 15.1 million English voted for it. It is one of the many democratic deficits of the UK, this notion of a British Demos, which has been declining rapidly for the last 30 years.

@benowen8321 Not if you take out the English retirees from the voting population...what was it, 200,000?
1
@benowen8321 They do, but only if the UK is in the EU... The game has changed.

It depends on your style of nationalism. Scottish and Welsh nationalism are inclusive and about sharing sovereignty. This is a modern form of nationalism. English nationalism is about exclusion, territory and safely keeping sovereignty behind a wall or in an ivory tower. This is the outdated nationalism that leads to conflict. In Ireland, Sinn Féin have moved from that old fashioned territorial nationalism toward the modern version since the Belfast Agreement was signed.

@ zoreto Sheer ignorance. It is actually self-evident if you compare them. The Belfast Agreement is actually based on the concept!

Of course its not wrong, its how the English interpret their nationalism that is out of date.

What are you going to about it? Scotland and Wales had to fight in Parliament for devolution - when the English outside London going to grow a pair and get their own Assembly?

That's by GDP per capita...
