  1. Everybody speaks English and Ireland has already chosen its side - its strategic interest lies with the EU. When the UK leaves, the Irish will be the only English speaking country in the European Union, enhancing its role as a gateway to the EU for US investment. Unlike the EU, the Commonwealth is not trade body. All of the members of the Commonwealth have told the UK that it will be prioritising trade deals with the EU over the UK. Former colonies are not interested in a new imperial relationship for the 21st century - they've told the UK this but its not listening. Then there is the United States: its putting America first, its not interested in a relationship that make the UK great again, it only wishes to exploit it at its moment of weakness. The UK needs to leave to find all this out...

Ireland already has close ties to the United States - one in every four dollars invested in Europe since 1990 has been invested in Ireland, while Ireland is the 9th largest foreign direct investor in the United States. Ireland is the only country in the world with a guaranteed meeting with the POTUS every single year. Irish soft power has ensured that Congress will block any US-UK trade deal when the hard border goes up in Ireland. All of this has been achieved while maintaining an independent foreign policy and without the POTUS choosing the Irish ambassador to Washington should be. Ireland will rejoin the Commonwealth once Irish unity is achieved.
