The DUP, the Right-wing creationists from Northern Ireland that are keeping the Tories in power, are against this solution.
1
The Tories don't like the risk. If May had not called the election in 2017 the UK would be out by now, with NI left in the Customs Union. People in NI would be happy with that.
1
Looks like the UK is going to fudge something.
1
@ Geth Creator We want to make sure there is no result in favour that resembles the result of Brexit. There would need to be a substantial number unionists backing the idea of Irish unity before the Irish government would support such a notion. Brexit and the impending Catholic majority in NI indicates that it is just of 'when' not 'if'.
1
Yeah? Why?
1
@paulywhit2783 The Irish got what they wanted inserted into the Lisbon Treaty, fool. But Brexit is not based on facts is it? It all about imagined oppression and 'plucky English character'.
1
Yes.
1
It will be even easier from 1st January....

@zzz22214 Excellent analysis.

I voted No in the two referenda. Like most people, it was because the wording was meaningless, not because of any anti-work, agenda, Varadkar or anything else. Leo will be remembered as the Taoiseach who failed to solve the housing crisis, but who was the right man in the right place when it came to dealing the his Tory counterparts in England and their bullshit Brexit. He put them in their place.

Matters relating to the Belfast Agreement are bi-lateral between the UK and Ireland.

Who was the last US President to attend a coronation?
1
'They always talk about NI joining SI and staying in the EU, but what about SI joining the United Kingdom' Finally, we have reached peak Brexit...
1
Delighted. He drives Brexiters mental.
1
@oculent8979 It was in the FT.
1
Your sovereign Parliament is the enemy?
1
'The people' aren't sovereign, and your parliament is dominated by remainers who were democratically elected post-referendum.
1
The Nationalist Party and the Freedom Party - how many elected representatives do they have Paul?
1
She will be the next Irish Taoiseach...
1
He was elected. And he is only half-Indian.
1
On the contrary, everybody else in the first world cares about Ireland. Everybody except the British. But they're not for the first world for much longer.
1
Yes, but common sense prevailed in that instance and the authorities realised the stupidity of the name. The overruled it and named the boat David Attenborrough. It begs the question why can the same not be done to with Brexit - even through a second referendum!
1
That's the problem with the English, 2 World Wars and what do they have to show for it? Brexit is the politics of self-pity.
1
I've seen that quotation before. What was the context?
1
Ireland has been independent for a century.
1
A lack of strategic vision.
1
Dr Peter Collet is a psychologist.

What?
1
For what?
1
I don't think the Commonwealth sees it that way.
1
The UK tried that an the EU said 'No'. Your assertion is delusional and three years out of date.
1
