  1. The trouble is, while Republicans served a 100,000 years for their crimes, and Loyalists 60,000 years for theirs, only 3 British soldiers were ever convicted for unlawful killings. They served only 17 years and were returned to their units after their release and often promoted. That is an injustice by the state, the very state that nationalists need to have confidence in if they were to become comfortable with being in the UK. In the case of Bloody Sunday, the names of the victims were sullied in order to exonerate the soldiers. The IRA were terrorists, as were the UVF et al. Police, soldiers and the judiciary are always held to a higher standard, otherwise the state has no legitimacy.

  3. I agree, but your moral equivalence between the army and IRA is vacuous. As it happens, both the IRA and the British government opposed a Truth and Reconciliation process which would could have avoided the prosecution of soldiers in this case, but would have meant both the IRA and British Government would have had wash their dirty linen in public.
