  1. The English never had any say in Ireland until they colonised it. I think English colonisation was a disgrace. The UK must now face break up because it can either have Brexit or it can have the precious union, but it cannot have both.

  11. Why would the EU support a third country over a member state? The Irish did not vote to put a border between itself and the EU. Go to WTO - that would be fun to watch. You know its run by unelected bureaucrats right?

  12. Sorry, Ireland would be not be that stupid. Ireland is the 'big dog' in this fight, because it has 27 nations behind it, while the UK is the 'small dog'. The situation would reverse if it went on a solo run with the UK which is governed by liars and charlatans. The Irish don't trust the UK under Brexiters.

  16. Northern Ireland is in the Single Market and it is governed by rules. The UK will obey those rules, as the UK signed up for them. A recent poll (October) conducted by the University of Liverpool indicates strong support for the NIP in Northeren Ireland, even among the unionist community.

  17. The EU became aware of this in 2017 and upped their security. It is quite apparent that GCHQ is playing no part in negotiations as the UK is as weak and as clueless as ever.

  18. The US has instructed the UK to implement the NIP 'in full', which is whey Frost bottled it. There will be no border in Ireland, it will be in the Irish Sea where a majority in Northern Ireland are happy to see it.

They are the only country in Europe not over the Second World War and 'the Germans', and they were on the winning side! Northern Ireland was peaceful, and relatively normal by its standards until Brexit came along. Brexit destroys the constructive ambiguity of the GFA in Northern Ireland - there has to be a winner and a loser, there can not be two winners with the UK outside the EU.

It is important for your media to construe any concession from the EU...indeed anything at all... as evidence of the EU 'bottling it', but the fact is, the EU has the UK on a short leash, and everybody knows it. Frosty knew it, which is why he bailed. The UK is the big bottler. It has bottled triggering article 16 for example, the threats to do so now are much more low key and for internal consumption. Last October the EU and the US told the UK that any plan to trigger article 16 would result in an immediate response, so the UK pretended it never wanted to trigger article 16 in the first place. The UK bottled putting up a border with Ireland on 1st January. This is because the UK cannot feed itself and needs Ireland more than Ireland needs the UK. If the UK wanted to do the right thing because the UK loves and cares about Ireland it would have stayed in the Single Market, preventing the need for the NIP. But we know where Brexiter priorities lie, don't we. In that context you have a bit of neck to criticise the motives of other stakeholders. Finally, the three leafed shamrock, not the four leafed clover is the symbol for Ireland....

  27.  Leroy Jenkins Alpha  Yes, Ireland is tiny, but no, the EU is not 'just and organisation'. If it was 'just an orgnanisation' you wouldn't have left it - or have you forgotten? Ireland's position is amplified by the EU, as is the position of every member state. Unless the UK is planning to invade the EU, I fail to see how the UKs military prowess plays any role in this. The EU remains the big dog and the UK the little one in this fight. For a country that is 'nowhere on the global stage', Irish diplomacy has wiped the floor with its British counterpart since 2016...

  33. This comment is typical of the kind of delusions that afflict Brexiters, the WHO should recognise it as a genuine mental disability. The EU will be relevant to the UK for also long as the UK lasts. You cannot ignore the huge economic and political bloc on your doorstep, and you will be forever influenced by decisions it makes without being able to shape them. Germany does not run the EU - one of the great myths of Brexit. The UK is in conflict with the EU, not the other way round. It is the UK that is trying wriggle out of an internationally binding agreement, not the EU. 27 European nations have had enough of the playacting now, and it is clear that if the UK triggers Article 16 Brussels and Washington will take action.
