It was the American led allies that at the end of WW2 agreed Russia should be the „liberators“ of Berlin considering of the many thousands of Soviet deaths suffered. The responsibility of the surrender process in germany was divided up between the Soviets, the French, British and Americans. Germans that experienced that time told me that they were scared stiff of it being the Russians. The stories of their brutality, rapes, pillaging etc had been told ahead of them.

@CindySorenson you seem to be missing the point. Canada wants to self govern- it is NOT the USA. They can decide for themselves which ‘big business’ it wants to have. It is not all about money. Important is idiology and self worth. Canada is socially more intune with European Admin. Canadian’s have a completely different set of values to those of the USA. Why should they play second fiddle to upholding yours? You say a Canadian could become President of an enlarged USA, but if it is to be a merger it would have to change the name to accomadate the two nations, otherwise you are only confirming what the Canadians are objecting to. You are treating them as minions, not seeing them as equals! They are Canadian-Americans and do not want a US-American president. America being the continent, not country. .

@DieFlabbergast. A lot of countries have Russian speakers same as English speaking Welsh and Irish. It is still Wales and Ireland. Crimea is Ukraine. And was at point of gaining independence after the split of the Soviet Union. Ukraine rented out the port Sevastopol to Russia as home to their Black sea fleet. Russia imported ‚construction worker‘, ‚dock worker‘, ‚maintenance‘ etc families into the area. Pushing out locals. ‚Little green men‘ arrived and took control. The Russians deported ethnic Crimea Tatars banishing them from their land. The ‚vote‘ to join Russia was no more legit than the September 2022 farcical elections in the four Ukrainian ‚annexed’ Oblasts.

@ … By then those caught up in the Russian zone became accustomed to the soviet ways. It became the DDR and was where Putin spent his formative years training as a KGB agent) After the destruction and administrative upheaval of the war The residents of the DDR became accustomed to soviet style order. After the wall came down, even now, people were not accustomed to taking responsibility about their own choices. So much was decided for them under communism they found the dismantling of the Strick admin framework unsettling.

Helping a country defend itself should not be conditional to „what is in it for me“. Trump‘s envoy is devoid of moral or Christian values.

I would like to add, that our queen also ‘entertained’ Trump in 2019 who disrespected her, aged 93, by being late and letting her wait on the steps. Then rudely and agsinst protocol pushed passed and in-front of her for the ‘inspection of the troops tradition. This was all taken without comment or derision from the royals or officials as part and parcel. But very much noticed by the public! I am sure the King will try to make the visit as smooth as possible, be it the first of many awkward moments.n

Laurel Hardy? Is the image I now imaging!

@Bob-nd2mr my first comment on here has been deleted, only the add on still exists (for now anyway) I believe the visit should go ahead as proposed. Our Queen ‘entertained’ many heads of states, including Putin, some that had done terrible things. All part of the royal role. The invite was set. On request of our government and its aim to help soften Trump’s stance towards helping Ukraine. In my first post I listed some of the most brutal leaders, which may be why it was deleted.

Putin sent the Wagner forces there after Prigozhin’s “March” on Moscow. They were seen to be apparently training up part of the Belarusian’s army according to Lukashenko But I believed Belarus got fed up with their bad behaviour. They tried to attack the western boarder which got Lukashenko tetchy. I believe most have since moved back to what Wagner were previous up to in Africa.

@PatrickBuckley such arrogance. You think these countries with conscription and keeping back all these reserves do not have plans? Every military has any number of plans. Co-ordinating us together and choosing the best options is the next step. Allocation re who, when and where after that. Only recently we put together an alliance to tackle the rouge cable cutting ships.

@lochnessmonster5149 another numpty. What do you think European countries (not all are in European economic Union) have been doing? Sending in aid, ambulances, fire engines, medic help, hosting the displaced and much more. These are our neighbours! The US armament industry has received so many orders from us, there are delays on deliveries up to three years. Less than half the allocation of old stock from storage allocated for Ukraine has so far arrived from the USA. The US allocation in $$$ mostly stays in the USA as it buys newer upgrades to replace the soon to expire items from the storage stockpile sent to Ukraine. We rely on you for weapons because the NATO alliance has been streamlining and the US produced weapons have become the universal ones used more and more. Our most recent For example Our Aircraft carrier was recently equipped with US off the peg planes. (F35s? I do not know the correct Code for them) It is your industry that makes money on this arrangement, but maybe we have learnt our lesson and we must produce more for ourselves instead of buying in, if there are going to be more restrictions from our old time partners!

@.hottake8940. Haha freedom of speech! We have freedom of speech here and can openly criticise our leaders. Trump is punishing states that did not vote for him. He is full of vendetta and demands loyalty from those he ‚gifts‘ jobs to. Musk is the one dissolving checks and balances because his Company is under investigation, so he dissolved that department. Every government needs transparency, and if you are afraid of investigation, what does that mean. Musk has briefed Vance on Europe „freedom of speech“ because we have laws about spreading lies (libel) and hate speech, especially when it leads to deaths. His knee jerk Tweets for click value have been criticised, so HE thinks his speech is being banned. Vance is too lazy to do his own research. He is just a mouthpiece for Musk‘s lies and misinformation. One could even imagine this is to appease Putin! Those two have chosen their bed mates!

I disagree. King Charles officially meeting Trump does not equal a unity in thought. It is a diplomatic meeting at the highest cordial level. Our late Queen has “entertained” the best and worst of world leaders. That is the aloof domain of royals. Don’t forget proposing this meeting was to soften Trump’s attitude towards Ukraine. Our King is doing this (on request of our government) for the good of European harmony and fir Ukraine. Our late Queen ‘entertained’, Putin, Xi Jinping, Bashar al-Assad, King Abdullah, Ceausesu. All known to have done terrible things. However, by elections or other, they were all recognised leaders and meetings with our royals all part of the turning of the globe. Hope is always for positive influence. One can but try!

@tonynew3047 almost everything he has said recently is a direct copy of Putin’s words and actions. I am not convinced Trump does realise he is being played! Putin: “I can take Ukraine, Moldova, Estonia etc if I want,”. I am not convinced the sale of Alaska was legit.” Trump: “I can take Canada if I want.” I am not convinced Denmark is the legit owners of Greenland”. A wanna be carbon copy of the guy he admires most. putin.

When Lex Friedman said Trump and Musk were against corruption, it is because OF disinformation in the USA. Haters have forever claimed Ukraine is corrupt, even though it is well known Zelenskyy has been coming down hard on curuption from day one. As Zelenskyy said it is a condition on joining the EU too. Trump and Musk are not big on anti corruption. Re the money for votes and Trump taking money collected for the campaign and from his charity for his own use etc. That meant they liked to attack Zelenskyy by claiming HE was corrupt. Same as when both Trump and Musk made narky comments that he was good at begging for money.

@tgriffin3059 “Majority are happy”? at a 50% turn out a fraction over half voting for him? That is just over one quarter of the citizens vote for Trump. And are you saying all 25.5 % are still happy after hearing his continuous lies and his confrontational aggression. And allowing Musk to take control of everything back home! They must be estatic!

Ben Hodges it was not just the Roosevelt and Churchill’s resolve to go at Hilter. At the time they had the same problem of getting the opposition and American people on board. As well as to prep the USarmy on what to expect a battery of British army gunners went on a round USA tour doing demonstrations, drills and parades from West Point down to Las Vagus. In 1943.

Withdrawing from Kursk gives Putin the confidence he is winning, which in turn means he is less likely to want a cease fire.
