  2. I am thinking the opposite Don. Putin wants discord. He not just welcomes but knows he is creating friction amounts the new “friends” he is visiting. Putin wants crisis and wars, that way he feels he will stay relevant. China claims to want peace (they worry about their future international commercial transactions) They agree with Putin that spreading democracy with open free media coukd be seen as a soft power threat to their dictatorships, but they also apprechiatte that they need free passage through the Uez Cann Al etc. they enjoy the openness of other countries, protected by the many ciuntrues of the .west. Xi may have underestimated Putin’s dedication to stirring up governments - starting with bribery, developing dependency then cashing in with threats of guilt filled fear of disclosure. Even internally I am sure Putin has stuff on ALL of his aids, the ones he gave power through favours. This is so he can dismiss them at any time when he feels the need, or they may be becoming too influential.
