@Mediiiicc so what are you compensating for with your posturing and blustering arrogance as if your oppinion and unsupported claims has any kind of weight or authority just because you are stating them?

Also, during much of the cold war, we lost 10-20 pilots each year to crippling and/or fatal accidents just because they always flew as if it was a war on. Low, fast and aggressive.

On the other hand, SAAB officially stated in 2023 that they had parts for assembling 16 complete Gripen C/Ds just waiting for a buyer on top of whatever Gripens the Swedish government can free up to donate.

It's true, it got classified at the time, but when it got declassified about a decade ago, the Swedish J/A37 Viggen pilots were invited to Washington DC and recived medals for their assistance from President Obama.

@Anna-vt8yl 1🇸🇪🐯 😉

And if not, there's a SAAB J35 Draken forward end converted to a full imersion simulator at the museum in Ängelholm that's open to the public, and I think there's an A/J37 and possible also a JAS39A sim of the same type at the aircraft museum at the SAAB airfield in Linköping.😊

The engine can also, if needed, be swapped by the same conscripts on those same bumfuck nowhere roads, tested and cleared for operation in the same ~30minutes time it takes to swap a Leopard2 or CV90 powerpack...
2
Incorrect. The Gripen C/D IS beeing replaced in Sweden, at an almost glacial pace with new E/F versions, which, tbh, has almost as little in common with the C/D version as the first production Gripen had with the last AJS Viggen.
2
Afaih it takes far less, but 3h in the field is still far superior to most civilian cars in a fully equipped garage...😂

As a Swede, I'd say that from a capability perspective, the F-16 and the Gripen are complimentary platforms more than they are competing ones.

What's so funny?

There is a Draken airframe and cockpit built into a max immersion simulator at Ängelholms Flygvapenmuseum that's open to the public for a separate booking fee. The museum is located around 1.5h drive North along the E6 highway from Copenhagen international airport. You can also get there by train to Ängelholm city (trains heading from Denmark towards Göteborg and Oslo stops at the Kastrup airport terminal and Ängelholm city, and from Ängelholm, there is busses every 30 minutes in summer time, everyb60 minutes in winter, the city also has a very good railroad museum and good quality restaurants for every preference within 15min walk from the train station.

Not nessesarily, the US still has a VETO on Gripen sales due to it's Boeing engine...😔
1
Not of the E/Fs, but according to SAABs CEO, there is factory new components and airframes for assembling 16+ Gripen C/D just sitting in their assembly hall warehouses waiting for a buyer... Then there's the ones mothballed for budget shortages in South Africa and a dozen or so beeing returned at end of lease from the Czhek republic iirc.
1
@keestrokes because those DU 35mm rounds are heavy as f*ck.
1
@jamesnichols7507 if you are wondering if your female F/O is wearing a thong, that's a you problem, not a her problem and you need to start beeing professional about your duty.
1
And if civilian safety protocols are thrown out the window, 400m (1200ft) runways is plenty iirc.

Because to the Swedish Airforce, the only change was a bit of ink on a paper that officialised a colaboration that started in the 1960ies and has grown ever closer since. It was about as eventful as a courthouse marriage when the couple have been living as if married for over half their lives and only tied the knot to make sure the mean spirited next of kin on either side can't kick a surviving partner out of their home if either one pass away before the other.
1
Personally, I'd let the airforce send the planes as soon as our instructors are confident that the Ukranian pilots and ground crews are competent at operating them and make the bureaucrats and diplomats either keep up with the pace with their paperwork or be forced to make their papers match reality after the fact for once.
1
@bogdanflo1212 it was also often discarded because of it's limited range and US veto over the licence built RM8 engine.
1
Gripen C/D is what's availiable off the shelves, it's only marginally less optimized but can be delivered in reasonable numbers as soon as Ukraine have people to fly and serve them. The E/F version needs to be scratch built, and only has a single assembly line iirc.
1
Because there's a litteral fuckton of the things just mothballed in US desserts...
