And these could be either.

Yes, there is only one possible purpose of this kind of strategic redeployment. To prevent the reliable NATO member states from accessing the eastern Mediterranean and the Black Sea to reinforce or support Ukraine from the south when the invasion comes. And I have a personal suspicion Turkey will defect if called to action in defence of either Ukraine or the Baltic states...

@Apodeipnon where do you think the Shein, Temu, Aliexpress etc. Profits end up when those are majority owned by the CCP?

This is an accessory to such ferries in order to not need ports. Aside for hovercrafts, all other sea/ocean going Ro-Ro ships need hardened, dredged, deep draft port facilities that their ramps can lock onto.

All modern submarines use electric drives, no direct mechanical drive between any combustion engine and the propellers. The AIP or naval diesel only produces electricity to charge the batteries. The speed burst capacity comes from that layout as an electric motor can develop far greater delta torque/volume and weight on a direct drive with a smooth acceleration. (not even transmission or gear box are strictly nessesary as the torque output of an electric motor is a direct function of the Amperage and current over the coils and thus the strength of it's alternating magnetic fields)

These are a blocking force to prevent NATO assistance to Ukraine when the invasion starts.

Gun artillery projectiles are generally too fast and too small to hit for CIWS

That's just the thing, you don't need a lot of them, just a handful of those mobile ports can offload tens of thousands of troops with support vehicles per day...

Since the combustion product of H²+O² is water, it wouldn't be as much of a hole as a hump, all be it a very temporary one ;)
