There's no way you're going to get American companies like Ford, Chrysler, and Chevy to buy steel or aluminum made in America at three times the price they can get from South Korea, China, or Japan. Trump can try to place tariffs on imported steel and aluminum but that's only going to spark a trade War, which will lead the United States into a recession. .

There's a reason why South Korea, Japan, and China put U.S. Steel and Bethlehem Steel almost out of business in the 70s. There was plenty of competition but given the exchange rate between the US dollar and their currencies we couldn't compete. You can remove all taxes and make it a Level Playing Field, their currency is so cheap they would still put American steel mills out of business. And now you're talking about competing? Just constructing new steel mills would be an investment of 600 million to a billion dollars per steel mill.
