I admit I am an American, I was raised on Marine base, and I attended military school. Even though the Germans were at a distinct disadvantage like China is today, because they didn't have any oil Reserves they could easily tap into, Germany had to depend on other countries for oil imports. So a short war was to their advantage. if it were not for the United States entering World War II in January, 1942 the Germans would have won that war.
The United States upon entering the European theater had three basic strategies:
One, eliminate and decimate German infrastructure, the German war machine by removing all possibility of manufacture of Weapons,Tanks, Plans, Ships, and Munitions.
Two, disrupt all supply lines from Europe, Africa, and the Mediterranean. Three, further divided German Manpower and materials to a third front.
