Please don't let this stuff demotivate you from studying. Can't just give in to despair cause AI can write code well. There's too much hype and doomerism on the internet by people who don't know what they're talking about. Aim for deep understanding of architecture and find a CS specialization to pursue. Then AI will only make you more valuable.

Did you think it was easy money? Do it because you love it and are good at it. The process of software engineering will never be fully automated. Coding is at most 1/6th of the current job. People think LLMs are magic. They are not.

@moonalith Of course you should expect monetary gain. It is and will remain a "real job". I think the days of people paid $400k a year to eat free food are coming to an end.

@AbdelbarrMalki I'm guessing you're not even in the industry.

That's why it's vital this tech is in the hands of everyone, not just giant companies.

Empowered scammers are indeed a problem with AI.

Hardware has generally progressed faster than software. And it's not a matter of upgrading to 900 gorrillian parameters, eventually overfitting is a concern. AGI is the goal, and it requires more advanced technology than these language models.

People seem to think programming itself is the goal of being a software engineer. It never has been. Building things is the goal, and that will require human supervision for the foreseeable future. People with a deep understanding of the field will be first in line for what comes next. It's laughable to me that people think in 5 years product managers and even business people will have LLMs shit out their products. This tech may seem like magic, but it's not.

@piotrek7633 The “brainstorm of thoughts” are just probable answers according to the model weights. The performance doesn’t scale. Great for Nvidia but the “all white collar jobs replaced in 2 weeks/months/years” people are still just hyped up little children fooling themselves. Funny how a year ago when I made that comment, everyone was saying we’d be cooked in six months. It’ll be “just wait two years bro” in two years.

Do you really think some random sales guy is going to design and implement a new compiler with only AI?
1
Absolutely do not do it if you're not passionate about it

NLP is based on algorithms and theories that are at least 50 years old. Exponential growth is not realistic.

Forrest is coping the most. Isn't teaching people how to code the point of his channel? He'd might as well quit YouTube.

Same, worked my ass off teaching myself to get out of the wage slavery life into something for which I always had a passion (but not the relevant degree). Feels like achieving a dream just in time to see it taken away. I don't think it's necessarily over, though. There's too much doomer rhetoric on this topic. Remaining stagnant was never going to work in this field anyway. Go deeper than front end and specialize.

I'm from the utopian future- there are no scrum masters.

How will people get paid $180k to center <div>?
1
Plenty of jobs to be had in working to automate the rest of the jobs. That is the goal.
1
@_slickyricky something tells me these influencers won't be writing code, even with language models
1
@_slickyricky Doomers are the most pathetic copers of them all. The bar exam is simple memorization. Engineering is a complex task that involves design of large systems. This will not be automated in five years so that any idiot can do it. Maybe you should aim higher than coding React bloat if you're trying to get into this though.
1
It will weed out the people who came to make $400k to eat free food. My concern is that with the advanced level of abstraction we're reaching, it could be increasingly rare that newcomers will gain a deep tech understanding
1
@_slickyricky You really don't know what you're talking about.
1
That's not what's causing the current layoffs.
1
you can either use it to advance yourself or become a black hat hacker
1
Dumbest take I've seen yet. 1/6th of a senior's current job is coding.
1
Plenty of research indicates it's a lie that automation causes a net decrease in jobs. It increases the number of jobs. As for the economic race to the bottom, that's a different problem.

@finalcut302 The most obnoxious word ever posted by internet retards. Here's a nice cope, better to have been useful at one point than to have always been useless, enough to feel vindicated by others' misfortune.
