  1. I had a root canal twelve years ago. It finally stopped acting up a couple years ago. Every six weeks or so I would get some swelling in the area. My gum would swell up, and it lasted about three days. The pain wasn't bad but it was there. It tapered off over the next day or two. Had I known I was in for about ten years of random pain every six weeks or so I would have had them pull the tooth instead.
