If you have a decent job you should be able to support yourself, provided you stick to a budget, cut out unnecessary expenses, and choose to live beneath your means. Far too many people have too much debt for their salaries. They want to experience a certain standard of living but can't do it without going into bad debt like credit cards. And having a car payment is a big mistake for most people. I'd bet if most people complaining about how expensive the cost of living is also happen to have a car payment.
