EVs are not ready for prime time. The electrical grid needs a massive overhaul, the charging network not only needs to dramatically expand but recharging the battery needs to be comparable to filling up a tank of gas. Range needs to increase to be comparable to a regular car. You'd be silly to buy a used EV because you have no idea the condition of the battery when you buy it. You'll be in for a shock once you get the bill to replace the battery. Insurance for EVs is a lot higher than a regular car, and then there's the ever-present fire risk. If you get into an accident you'll be lucky if the car does not catch on fire. Then you'll have to contend with a totaled car because it''s too expensive for the insurance to fix it. Oh, and, hopefully your car does not catch on fire while it's plugged in to your home charger. If you ever have a home charger. Apartment & condo dwellers are out of luck on that. And hopefully chargers make their way out into the rural areas. That would be nice. EVs, batteries, and the electrical grid all have a long way to go to make owning an EV sensible for the Average Joe.
