For kids the diet starts at home. For home the diet starts with the parents. Can be mostly vegetarian, or meat-proteins, or carbs (bread-cereals). But the real firsts step is that the great majority of food to be unprocessed food and this by itself goes a long way to health. The second step is in proportions of the vegie to meat to carbs. The third step is in zeroing foods that will hurt you: sugars and seed oils. The fourth step is really a platform where you try out and accept/reject foods that are best for you. And you are there ... and you will do well whether you are heavy on vegie or heavy on meat. Parents lead by example. Yes, this 4-step process is very similar to quitting smoking. Everyone has their own path to make their own pyramid -- vegan or carnivore or Keto with fats in the middle. Oh, for some (like me) there is a step zero: Detox from heavy metals, mercury a must.
