@CybershamanX The purpose of the great purge was to prepare the state for war. Stalin was dissatisfied with the political instability of the republican government in Spain. He believed that this could lead them to defeat in the civil war. To prevent analogue of this in the USSR, he launched a big purge. People who condemn this are based on liberal values, but Stalin was not a liberal. He was a pragmatist and probably achieved his goal.
