I am Italian. I hope the EU will do something to prevent us to end up like the USA, but neither Italy nor Germany are safe rn. Meloni hasn't been able to do more extreme stuff (like deportations) because she has been stopped by the courts, the EU, regional governors from opposition parties, even by more moderate members of her own coalition. It's true the AfD is not in the government coalition in Germany (yet?), but they are much more extreme than Fratelli d'Italia. Or even Le Pen. And they have support from Musk. Things can easily go very wrong over here too 😞 Meloni has a project to change the Italian Constitution, because our antifa Constitution was written to avoid concentration of power and another dictatorship. So her goals are clear.

@brano13177 wow, respect to your uncle and other family members! One of my grandfathers was taken as POW to a camp in Poland for refusing to fight along side the Germans after they occupied Northern Italy. He lost a finger and part of his stomach, but came back home and lived past 80 years old. Thousands of Italians chose to go to POW camps rather than help the Nazis. My other grandfather was a partisan.

@keithbaker7097 yeah, for example in American highschools there are no philosophy classes. In most of Europe, philosophy is a mandatory class. Philosophy teaches critical thinking. Obviously the American government doesn't want a nation of critical thinkers.
