  1. Yeah, I think this will be the end for NATO. Having been actively opposed to NATO for decades (I am Italian and 50 years old), this is a good thing for me, but this is NOT HOW I wanted NATO to end. I wanted it to end in peace, NOT thru threats or wars 😞 it will be a messy divorce between the USA and European allies. It might lead to the end of the EU. Infighting between pro-USA allies and pro-Russia allies. Most Europeans do not want wars. We still remember WWII.

  2.  @davidgray8089  dont you know that the EU is planning to have a European defence system indipendent from Nato? We have been working on this for a long time, but the USA is opposing it. Ask yourself why.

I was an exchange student in the USA for a year in the 90s. American schools teach American propaganda, obviously. Especially in history classes. American views of WWII are different than Italian views.

  13. @vivivalentine6304  NATO is NOT an advantage for Italy. The USA wanted Italy to be under American control because of geopolitics. We were friends with the Soviet Union then and later with Russia. The USA did not want to lose their place in the Mediterranean. We lost the war, so we really did not have a choice. Same with Germany and Japan.

  14. What can we Europeans do about it? The EU is fighting against Musk/X and his hate filled campaign to support the neofascists. I wish the EU could ban X for hate content and fake news, or at least make Musk pay for not respecting our rules. But the EU is weak rn, both Germany and France are politically unstable 😞 I am very pessimistic about the future. And they have the arrogance of asking people to have children!! Why would Europeans have children when we see no future?

And yes, American Democrats might be even worse than Republicans when it comes to wars. Why do you think that is the case? Trump seems to want to end the American Empire. I do not think the military complex and CIA are going to let it happen thou. Btw, I am a leftist, so the opposite of MAGA, but ending the American Empire would be a great thing for us in Europe.

  42.  @davidgray8089  European and American interests have become more and more opposite since the start of the "war on terror". Nato is not useful for Europe, abd has been less and less useful, even damaging, in the last 20+ years. We can build our our European defence system, and end Nato.

  43.  @peace8373  btw, anti-Nato sentiment in Italy has been wide spread for decades. I am not a minority. Anti-Nato protests have been pretty common here since the Vietnam War. Then against all wars in the Middle East. Now against involvement in Ukraine. It's nothing new.

  44.  @peace8373  Europe can either spend on defence for Nato, or for an Indipendent European defence system. Most here want the second. But also, Italy has no enemy. Russia is not our enemy. Most Italians are against military spending anyway. But if we do need to spend, we would rather spend for a European system than Nato. Nato should have been disbanded when the Soviet Union collapsed.
