  2. Oh and my parents spent their honeymoon in Yugoslavia in 1973 and loved it! My mother's last name comes from the word "slav" in Venetian language, so I might have a Slav ancestor.

  4. ​@DeusVult-q3fa Russian man was executed by the Germans together with a bunch of Italian partisans right before the end of the war, here in Northern Italy, in the town where I was born. There is a monument with all the names of the people killed, and every 25th of april there is a little official cerimony to remember them

We complain about the Vatican, Rome (our central government), there is still some rivarly between different cities and between the North and the South, but its mostly tongue-in-cheek. There is no hate. Well, many of us are anti-American because we hate wars, and Americans are always involved in wars, plus they use our country as their own base in the Mediterranean. No Italian likes that. But we dont hate the American people per se. It might change soon because of Trump. He is threatening 200% tariffs on Italian wines, and I live in the land of Prosecco. So you can imagine how we feel at the moment. But it is true that Italians have no historical "enemies". It's a stupid concept. My grandfather was taken as POW by the Germans for refusing to fight on their side after they occupied North Italy. Like hundreds of thousands of other Italian soldiers. Still, he never hated German people. We don't believe in collective guilt and collective punishment. It's hard for me to understand why some Brits would hate the Russians. Or why some Americans hate the French.
