I am Italian and I went to the USA as an exchange student in 1992-93. I am an atheist and they gave me a host family where everybody was an atheist. I am a vegan, and two of my host "sisters" were vegan. I am a leftist and my host family was progressive. Exchange students do not have to look after their host family's children, nor go to church if they don't want to. It was all written in my contract. They try to match students with the right family. I would have NEVER accepted to spend a year with a religious family, or a family with young children. I went there to have fun, not to babysit or go to church. Why didn't you say anything to your agency? I had friends who asked to change host family for various reasons. The agency found a better host family for them.

@suerasley7237 teen pregnancies have always been an American problem. They just don't happen in Europe, Japan, South Korea and most advanced countries. Probably because Americans are so prude about sex, and kids don't get sex ed from their school or from their parents. Maybe now they just learn from the internet? I spent a year in Missouri as an exchange student in 1992-93, and I found American teenagers had absolutely no clue about the world, history, politics, civics, and yes, even sex education. Scary to me that these people were going to be 18 in a year or two, and be allowed to vote.
