  1. Russian is the WORST of all Slavic languages simply due to the writing system. Most other Slavic languages follow the 1 letter 1 sound rule. Or something similar where 1 or more letters combine to make another sound and its pretty straight forward. Russian on the other hand is basically the French of Slavic lnaguages. Russian has the letters: Э (pronounced eh), Й (prounounced yuh), and it has the, A, O, Y (pronounced oo), И( pronounced ee) vowels. Which is great right? But then it has a letter for each vowl combined with Й: Я (ya), Ю (yu), E (ye), Ё (yo). Which is basically useless if there are already letters which can be combined to symbolize the correct sound. Then there is the letter O. Which is in 99% of cases not pronounced as O (oh), but rather as "Ah". Dispite there being the letter A that makes the same god damn sound. You only pronouce O as O if it is accented. So for an example the word for milk молоко(moloko) will be pronounced as "malako". Then there is the rule that when the letter И goes after some consonant it becomes a softer consonant. As in you add the sound "ye" after you say it. But if you put any of the Я, Ю, E, Ё letters that effect happens as well. And sometimes the letter Г (guh), will be pronounced as В (vuh), despite again there existing a letter for that sound which is literally B. For an example the word for "He" EГO (ego), is pronounced as EBO (evo). And this shit doesn't even have a pattern. And don't even get me started on Ь & Ъ. Anyways thanks for listening to my TED talk
