Keep in Mind during the War of 1812 America was a secondary concern for the British, and I believe that the reason the British decided on peace is because of Napoleon in 1815 and the upcoming battle of Waterloo with Wellsey Also it should be noted that Major General Ross’s body was shipped to Canada in Rum to preserve it at the time. Also the British was a world power at the time of the war, they had some finished battling with the Napoleonic Wars and I highly doubt the new country of America would have been able to handle the great powers at the time in Europe specifically. The British won this war despite the Americans saying they won. Washington was burned down, Detroit fell without a fight, however down in New Orleans the British lost to the Americans in early 1815 because communication took a long time back then without telephones to let the troops know the peace treaty was signed in Ghent. It’s also worth noting that Parliament ordered the stoppage of Impressment prior to the start of the war, but Madison had already declared war and again communication was very slow in those days. The British were at the height of their world power back then and went on to fight Napoleon again in 1815. I also think that prior to the war there was tension between America and Britain due to America trading with the French which was frowned upon by the British because they were in an escalation war with France.

By the way this an excerpt from a government history page On August 16, 1812, the terrified American General William Hull surrendered Fort Detroit along with his 2,500 men. It was a stunning victory for British General Isaac Brock and for Canada—and a shocking and humiliating loss for the Americans.

Again for the last time America lost this war and you know it, they were a tattered militia and even John Armstrong refused to leave Washington when the British was invading..Read this from monument at St Paul’s Cathedral in London, again a Glorious victory by the British…. DEDICATED AT THE PUBLIC EXPENSE TO THE MEMORY OF MAJOR GENERAL ROBERT ROSS WHO HAVING UNDERTOOK AND EXECUTED AN ENTERPRISE AGAINST THE CITY OF WASHINGTON, THE CAPITAL OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA WHICH WAS CROWNED WITH COMPLETE SUCCESS WAS KILLED SHORTLY AFTERWARDS WHILE DIRECTING A SUCCESSFUL ATTACK UPON A SUPERIOR FORCE NEAR THE CITY OF BALTIMORE ON THE 12TH DAY OF SEPTEMPTER 1814 Sir Alexander Cochran got his revenge for sure, no doubt about it. The British were a world power going against a militia army what don’t you understand about that?
