There are many cases of defective products that have caused the deaths of millions that continued to be sold after the defects were known by the manufacturers. Think Ford Pinto. Think recalled prescription drugs. Think class action lawsuits. Where the hell is the invisible hand? Nowhere! That is why we need strong criminal and civil federal laws to protect consumers.
