Why, when it comes to architecture, does absolutely everything look more beautiful than stuff today?

@tommiatkins3443 Nah, it’s nothing to do with money; it’s to do with much of modern architecture being sh*t in the face of this pulchritude.

@avitarmageddon1721 Huh? What’s that got to do with the architecture? 🤔

@kingsaka5042 Hmm… there’s perhaps an element of that. I suppose part of my original point is that when you look at these old videos everything looks more solid, more ‘made with love’, more made to last and, yes, not always, but invariably more beautiful.

@jupiterfive3379 Smoke-blackened or not, they just look better here for some reason.

@youtubesucks8995 Nah, it’s not that. It’s something about every single building here being solidly beautiful/attractive and today’s cities (even the ‘beautiful’ ones) being diluted because ugliness has infiltrated this beauty. The prime example I use is in my home city, Edinburgh. Princes Street. Look at the old photos from late 19th/early 20th century. All the beautiful buildings were present and correct. Now look at it today. It’s bitty, to say the least. Horrendously ugly in parts. Why? They knocked down a lot of the good stuff and put up shit in its place. The result is Princes Street today resembles a badly maintained mouth full of gappy, and often ugly false teeth.
